Asian Tribe at Vauxhall Fashion Scout

A show that particularly stood out to me for my Tribal trend whilst working for Vauxhall Fashion Scout was this collection by Zeynep Tosun for House of Evolution.
It stood out to me as the designs, materials and prints suit an aspect of what I feel my trend could feature.

Turkish designer Zeynep Tosun created this collection based largely on the Richard Avedon elephant photoshoot for Dior in 1955. This photoshoot mixed together high fashion with African wildlife and was shot in Cirque d'hiver in Paris.

When entering the room where the elephants were kept, photographer Richard Avedon stated 'I saw the elephants under an enormous skylight, and in a second I knew... there was the potential here for a kind of dream image'.
I think that the presence of this image can be seen in Zeynep Tosun's collection, by the use of materials that she used as well as the prints. This is another aspect that will be considered in the Tribal trend - the influence of wildlife on the designs and shapes of the clothing worn.

Wanting to create a look that portrayed powerful women, the designer made the catwalk models give the impression of being part of an edgy and futuristic tribe; women who dress to kill - exactly the kind of women who will be a follower of my trend.
Retox magazine has described the pieces in the collection to include a mix of cloaks, tailored ankle grazers, sheer shirts and dresses, leggings, techno prints and hues of blacks, creams, blue, maroon, warm red and burnt orange.

A key trend shown in this collection  is Asian Tribe. It is said to have been based on the Padaung Kayan Tribe in Asia who wear coils around their necks to symbolise beauty. This was represented in the high tunic necks and metallic clasps. As well as this, perhaps to give an impression of a woman left to carry vital food and supplies for her tribe, one key piece featured the model wearing a 'huge, fluffly, bobby, white coat and a large metallic silver backpack with plaited straps'.

The make-up suited the theme perfectly; the eyes and the surrounding area were painted a pale white to give the impression of oriental eyes, as well as a fierce and powerful demeanour.
